Mrs. Liyanage has 37 years of experience in Banking and in the Government sector, including 31 years of experience at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Prior to joining the Central Bank, she served Bank of Ceylon and also was an officer attached to the Sri Lanka Administrative Services.
Mrs. Liyanage was with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka from 1979 and spent more than 25 years at senior level in the operations and international areas of the Bank where one of her primary responsibilities was the management of foreign exchange reserves of the country.
She has wide experience in areas of Foreign Exchange Operations, Portfolio Management, Exchange Rate Management, Payments and Settlements, Asian Clearing Union Operations, Back Office Operations of both Rupee and Foreign Exchange Transactions, Public Debt, Central Bank Accounts and Central Bank Balance Sheet.
She held various senior positions such as Accountant, Chief Dealer, Deputy Head of Department, Head of Department and at the time of her retirement, she served as one of the Assistant Governors of the Bank.
In addition, she served in many committees appointed by the Central Bank and notable among them being committees for Foreign Reserve Management, Monetary Policy, and Risk Management.
In the Reserve Management area, she took a keen interest to develop the reserve management activities of the country by taking initiatives to develop Information Systems available with the Bank, Payment and Settlement Systems, Segregation of duties, Risk Management, and Accounting, helping to develop reserve management activities to International Standards.
She initiated several measures to develop and activate the foreign exchange market in Sri Lanka.
She represented Central Bank at meetings and seminars, and was a resource person in the areas of foreign exchange, money market, and central banking and also published several articles. She also serves as one of the Directors of RAM Rating Lanka Ltd.
She holds a B.A. degree with a second-class upper division pass from the University of Kelaniya and has obtained professional qualifications from Bankers Training Institute, Sri Lanka. |
